About 8 of us met on Sunday, November 2nd and prepared the following draft outline (Thank You, Allison) for our Unstuffing the Holiday Service. We will meet again on Sunday, November 23rd, 12:30 pm, 2nd floor, RE Building to make final assignments and final decisions (especially about readings). If you have suggestions for readings, please bring them to the November 23rd meeting or forward a copy of the reading to Joan (green@slcuu.org).

Here is the draft outline for the service so far:

Order of Service - DRAFT

Song - funny holiday carol

Chalice Lighting - set the tone - connection support

Children's Story - The Gift of Nothing by Patrick McDonnell

Bridge/Kid Response - "What if your family celebrated the holidays this way?"
(LeeAnn writes up for Torch)

Music while kids go to RE

Reading - Voluntary Simplicity?
Buddhist i.e. letting go of self?
Unplug the Christmas Machine?
Other?

Offering - put a flyer in the Order of Service with the 10 possibilities of "What Are You Celebrating?" and question #3 from survey

"We have included some questions in the Order of Service for you to fill out at this time. If you feel so moved, please share with your neighbor what you will be celebrating this year/what it is you want to celebrate this year or other changes you have made toward simplifying the holidays"

Joys and Concerns - 1) survey responses read by various members of Environmental Ministry Committee
2) offer anyone in congregation to stand and share

"we are here to support you in the community"

Possible skit by Jane and Allison - maybe after Joys and Concerns?
Jane and Allison to put together handouts for the Env. Ministry Table

Closing - Verbal brainstorm of possibilities "What I can do instead"

Saturday December 6th - swap - First UU Holiday 6 R's - Rethink, REduce, Reuse, REcycle, Recover/Repurchase, Rejoice - bring what you no longer need, take what you need, what's leftover goes to Crossroads Urban Center or IRC.

12:15 - 1 p.m. discussion/support/resources
