Junior High (6th - 7th Grade)
Compass Points
Compass Points is a full year program for adolescents exploring their lives, their beliefs, their UU faith, and their relationships with others and the world.
During the course of the year, participants will have the opportunity to:
- Discover what they believe about life's big questions;
- Learn to articulate our Unitarian Universalist faith, and;
- Sort out their feelings about themselves and their world.
8th Grade-Coming of Age Program
Coming of Age is a rite of passage which marks the transition from Junior High to High school. The purpose of the COA program is to for participants explore their own religious and spiritual beliefs, and the history, programs, and organization of both this congregation and the denomination. Adult mentors are a major component of the program. Each participant has a mentor who will meet and work with him or her on a one-on-one basis at least once a month. Regular group meetings including all participants and mentors are also held. A major outcome of the program is the development of a personal credo or statement of theology by each participant. These credos are shared, and the young people honored, during the Coming of Age recognition service held in the spring. In June of this year, our Coming of Age class will be traveling to Boston for first hand experiences of the UUA and its roots. While in Boston, our kids will visit sites of historical importance for Unitarians. This heritage trip is a vital component of the COA program and we encourage all 8th Graders to make this journey.
