Environmental Ministry

Environmental Ministry

In 2006, Unitarian Universalists at the General Assembly passed a Statement of Conscience on the Threat of Global Warming. In the time since this statement passed, UU congregations have taken action. Find out what UUs said when asked, "What is the best thing your congregation has done to address climate change?" and "What has been the major challenge in engaging your congregation on this issue?"
One of the most important ways UU congregations are focusing their environmental energies is through the Green Sanctuary Program, sponsored by the Ministry for Earth (formerly the Seventh Principle Project). Green Sanctuary "provides a framework for study and reflection, and encourages individual and collective action for responding to the call to heal the Earth."

Green Sanctuary Certification

First Unitarian's Environmental Ministry Team is working toward accreditation as a Green Sanctuary. The congregation has nearly completed twelve projects in the areas of Worship & Celebration, Religious Education, Environmental Justice, and Sustainable Living. *Read more about the Green Sanctuary Program.
