First UU Partners with Art Access to Present a Literary Salon

Dust off your pens, sharpen those pencils, plug in the keyboard. First Church’s new Arts Council invites your inner Hemingways and hidden Austens out to play! Examine and celebrate the values and spirit that makes you a UU in our Feb 8 workshop, with the aim of presenting your poem, essay, or story at Art Access’ Literary Salon on March 14. If you’re not writing, you can be the audience.

On Sunday February 8 at 1:00 pm, Jane Grau will conduct a workshop to help you generate ideas, dispel the fear of the blank page, practice, polish, and perfect the craft of writing, and help you prepare a reading at the Salon. Everyone, especially high schoolers and college kids, is invited, no matter what your skill level. The theme, “After the F Word” is meant to inspire thoughts, feelings, and analyses of concepts such as gratitude, grace, greed, goodness, guitars, even your Great-Aunt Gertrude. The only requirements are that it be in keeping with the UU spiritual path and that you avoid any references to “George.”

No fee. Refreshments. Be not afraid – it’s a safe place to exercise your creative muscles! Follow-up critiques will be arranged as needed.

Jane Grau has written for major newspapers and magazines, including the Salt Lake Tribune and Utah Style & Design, has taught college composition and has a junior novel in the works.
