First Unitarian Church of Salt Lake City is part of the UUA Mountain Desert District. The District includes UU Churches in Colorado, Idaho, Montan0a, Nebraska, New Mexico, Texas, Utah and Wyoming.
The MDD serves as a resource, an information center and a clearinghouse for district congregations and their leaders, as well as for district volunteers. MDD provides leadership training, district wide meetings and provides opportunities for UU churches to participate in projects and activities which allow us to share our common goals.
One project currently underway is "MDD in Action" in preparation for the 2009 General Assembly in Salt Lake City:
Dear Unitarian Universalists of the Mountain Desert District,
Imagine your whole congregation engaged together, from age five to age ninety-five, in a variety of fun, meaningful community outreach activities all over town one Saturday in early spring. Then imagine capturing it all on video and sharing it at the launch of the annual stewardship campaign. Now imagine Unitarian Universalist congregations all across our district doing the same thing after which we put it all together into one magnificent professionally-edited picture and sound show for the 2009 General Assembly in Salt Lake City!!<
That’s MDD in Action and it's already underway in some of the churches that participated in the introductory workshop at the October MDD Annual Assembly in Billings. This Resource Guide is what the 20 participating congregations took home to share with their congregations.
If you’d like a copy of the sample DVD produced by members of Jefferson Unitarian Church, send me an email. Share it at your next board or membership meeting and I guarantee you will all be inspired and motivated thanks to the generosity of Chris and Steve Sealy of Denver Film and Digital. They’re also going to be editing and producing the MDD video for us. All you need to get started is included here in the Resource Guide.
Most of you already have relationships with many community-based organizations in town. Call and let them know your congregation is looking for volunteer opportunities one Saturday in April 2008 and ask them what you can do to help fulfill their mission and at the same time, the vision and mission of your congregation as well.
In coming months, more about MDD in Action will be posted to the district website, www.mdduua.org. In the meantime, if you have any questions, call or send me an email. Feel free to email Chris or Steve Sealy as well, csealy@denverfilmdigital.com.
Hope to “see” you in the movies!
