Meet the Housers
Meet patriarch and father- Travis Houser, daughter and mom- Lucy Houser, and son and grandson- Tyeer “Ty” Houser.

The Housers are three generation under one roof! Travis is 92 and was an Army brat. He spent his working years as an English teacher and an administrator, moving to Utah when he was 88. Lucy grew up in upstate New York and then in eastern Iowa. While she was working in Wyoming she had the opportunity to read the Salt Lake Tribune, and when the economy hit a slump she made for Salt Lake and found her true home, where she’s been the last 33 years. She works at the “U” as an editorial assistant for a chemistry journal. Ty, 14, is a student at Highland High School and involved in the football program. He gets to dress up like a cowboy, hop on horse, and lead visitors to the “This is the Place” State Park on trail rides; what a fun job! With his friends, the other 8th and 9th graders, he participates in the OWL program at First Church.

Travis and Lucy decided to make it official and signed the book in Dec 2015. They like to be part of the great community at First Church and feel renewed each week and challenged to be good and ethical people. Lucy was inspired by a sermon from Russ Menk, given last year, where he said we shouldn’t try to figure out the meaning of our lives- a daunting task- but rather, focus on the purpose of our lives.

This family pledges because it is the only way to pay for the great church they choose to call their spiritual home- the dedicated staff, the heat in the winter, the needed supplies, etc. They also pay their yearly dues to the UU organization- they are committed members.
