Who We Are

Our congregation is made of liberal Christians, atheists, pagans, agnostics, humanists, searchers, and believers in higher powers of many kinds, which we call by many names. We treasure the diverse colors, ethnicities, sexual orientations, family configurations, enablements, and socioeconomic status of our church family. Our differences are as valuable as our commonalities. We impose no creed on our members but invite you to explore and grow with us in your own unique way.

While Unitarian Universalism (UU) has a Judeo-Christian foundation, each UU congregation has its own style. Sunday services at First Church typically include singing, sermons, ceremonies, and yes, announcements. There are also times when we celebrate music, wisdom, and rituals from other times and places. Be assured that we welcome you each and every time.

Our Children

One of our greatest assets is our Religious Education program, which gives children and youth a solid foundation in the Seven Principles that guide our spiritual lives (see below). Look for more information about curriculum and activities here

Our History

We are also proud of the place First Church holds in Salt Lake City. Unitarianism in Utah is 117 years old. It was at First Church that some of Salt Lake’s liberal organizations, such as Planned Parenthood and the National Organization for Women, were founded. Today’s members continue to use First Church as a base of operations to work on such issues as immigration, hunger, and the environment. Go here to see where you can put your time and talent to work.

Our Programs

To ensure that we as individuals and as a congregation are the best that we can be, we pay close attention to social and spiritual needs. To that end, we learn, we create, we labor, we help others, and we have fun. Check out the activities and events section here to see what sparks your interest.
